I think that it's a good idea to have a part about John Sheppard's character development and what you'd like to see revealed about him in season three and beyond.
I remember reading in an interview with Joe Flanigan that more about Shep's background would be revealed in season two but it didn't seem very much. I think more into his experiences in Afghanstan would be something to see and perhaps more on his family. Hell I guess that could be said for all characters though.

Yes I was reading about that but I guess it still remains to be seen whether they actually do it. I am looking forward to learning more about McKay though too

Gaining more insight to characters is really rewarding for me. Lets you see how they think and why they are the way they are

But as I mentioned before I would like to know more about all of the characters, Doctor Beckett would be a good one to learn things about as all we know is he's a doctor, he's Scottish and he loves his old mum dearly but that's about.
With Sheppard we don't even know that much, nothing about John the man, just John the fighter pilot who gained a black mark and as the ancient gene. It would be cool to learn just a wee little bit about his family, if only to learn he has siblings or something like that. Knowing there's a female version of him running about on Earth would be hilarious!

Yeah I know what you mean...
I would to like to know more of all the characters...
And yes I think out of everyone John is the biggest mystery since we don't know anything about him...for me it just seemed at the way he has acted at some points it's like he really feels like he has nothing to return back to on earth... hopefully we will get to know more about him... And yeah Beckett would be great too learn more about too... Maybe also like what was the factor to come along on this journey..yes the unknown must have been a factor but like John he seemed not really know what to do... things like that...

That much is true, I can't imagine what it would be like to be told I could go on this great adventure but agree to it under certain terms and that there would be a possibility you couldn't come home. I think that is why John accepted it so readily, as he mentioned in Home that his home had been the base in Antartica so I think he wanted somewhere he could make a different and belong.
And that was that whole pep talk with O'Neill. "Why did you become a pilot?" "Because I think people who don't want to fly are crazy." "And I think people who don't want to go through the stargate are equally as whacked."
Says it all really LOL!

Yeah it does... O'Neill should know... I think he knew how to handle a flyboy like Sheppard.. knowing I think deep down the guy could be more then he thinks...and truly make a differencemmand if you can't do it on earth well heck then make a difference in another galaxy..

After watching season 3 and seeing how John acted around Teyla made me wonder what sort of family life he had back on Earth. Did something happen between himself and his family or vise versa? Did he and his dad have a HUGE fight and he decided not to talk to them anymore? Questions upon questions have appeared in my head since watching season 3. As most of you have said...John is a very mysterious person. I know there is an episode this season that will delve more into his character...and I certainly can't wait to see that one. I got a lump in my throat when I saw how hard it was for John to talk about emotions to Teyla.

I'm sure there will be,,,it's been talk about delving into character stories during this season... Yes the scene between John & Teyla was a very emotional and I loved that...to be able to see another side of him .. both Joe and Rachel nailed that scene... John that seemed to choke up towards the end... and he has a way of expressing a whole lot with just the look in his eyes...

Did he and his dad have a HUGE fight and he decided not to talk to them anymore? Raven That's a really good thought, would explain a lot of things about him then. Perhaps something went down between him and his dad because of the black mark on his record or something, that would be an interesting angle.
